Summer 2016 we are staying at Otter Point Resort This is a great spot right on the Ocean. Most people stay here and fish all summer long. I was loaned a FT-817 by my bud Fred VE7FMN. My antenna is a Perth Outbacker. It needs some better counterpoise wires. Fred also dropped off a Hammarlund HQ-140X which I have been listening to when the band allows.

Ice Station Special Event from an ice covered lake in Minnesota

WØJH operating February 13 – February 15, 2016 Having strong Scandinavian heritage, Minnesotans have been known to do odd, crazy things to break the monotony of the long winter. Members of the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association (SARA), will operate a portable special event from a frozen lake in east-central Minnesota. If the ice is thick enough, we will be operating from Lake Elmo, which is a little lake that covers about 281 acres, has a maximum depth of nearly 140 feet and located at grid square EN34nx in Washington County, MN. Primary operation will be SSB ~21.360, 14.260, 7.260 and 3.860 + or – depending upon band conditions. Anticipate that 20m, 40m, and 75m will be our busiest bands, but we may show up elsewhere briefly as well, including 10m, 17m & 160m. We also plan to have a PSK station. We anticipate being on the air from ~16:00-23:45 UTC on Feb. 13,14 & 15.

Portable Opperations in Langford BC with VE7FMN

My good friend Fred VE7FMN came to visit me for the day last summer. We headed to a local beach and setup our Elecraft KX3's.

Tinkering with a Drake TR-4C

I have been working on a 1976 version of the Drake TR-4C transceiver. It had a problem with the relay board which I have since fixed. Now I am troubleshooting the TX audio lack of mid range. It looks to be the capacitors that are in the metal can. https://youtu.be/HEQcQs5prkk

VE7HJ QSL Card from 1963

I found a QSL card on the Internet that may have been from the ham who held VE7HJ call sign before I did. Sure wish there was a database with the person's name each time a call sign changes owners. This card did have the call sign owners name.

T30D QSL Card

I just received my QSL card in the mail today from Greg Tretow - DL4SVA in Germany. I am so excited to get my first QSL card using my Elecraft KX3 and 12 watts of power into a LNR End Fed Quad wire antenna. The distance between the our stations was almost 5000 Miles.
